The story of Rahab from the book of Joshua is the inspiration for the foundation of Scarlet Thread Ministries.
Rahab had been a harlot in the city of Jericho. Like many residents of that city, Rahab had heard stories about the God of the Israelites and the many victories gained by the people as they conquered city after city. Rahab believed in the God of the Israelites and was quick to help the two spies that entered her home in order to scout out the city. Rahab hid the spies and assisted in their escape from the king’s men by letting them down from her window by a scarlet cord. In return for her help
Rahab requested that she and her family be spared during the raid on Jericho. The two spies agreed to spare Rahab and her family if she followed their stipulations. Rahab was instructed to keep quiet about the mission of the two spies and of the upcoming invasion on the city of Jericho. The spies directed Rahab to tie the scarlet cord in her window and keep all family members inside the home during the raid. Rahab obeyed and immediately tied the scarlet cord to her window. Rahab and her family were saved from certain death by her trust in the power of the scarlet cord to deliver life rather than death.
We see that the scarlet thread of Christ’s shed blood runs parallel to the life of every person born on this earth. The choice to embrace and trust in the life-giving power of Christ’s blood is offered to everyone. Those who choose to trust in the power of His blood are saved from certain death and brought into eternal life. Those who ignore the scarlet thread of Christ’s blood choose life according to their own desires and they perish just as the citizens of Jericho.
The Bible tells us in 2 Peter 3:9 that, “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” We believe the Lord has developed Scarlet Thread Ministries so that we may tell those who are perishing that Christ’s blood is the scarlet thread that runs throughout eternity exchanging death for hope, joy, peace and salvation in the life of anyone who will just believe.
